Coping with grief
Bereavement support in St Albans and the surrounding area
After someone dies, those left behind have to work out a way to carry on living. Many people who are grieving find they want support, but are unsure about what is available and where to start looking. The Good Grief Trust is a useful starting point because its website draws together multiple organizations offering both emotional and practical advice under one 'umbrella' - hence the logo.
We know grief is a natural response to the death of a loved one, but grief can be both isolating and debilitating, and some may feel they would benefit from personally tailored support and thus find the following suggestions helpful:
Indu Khurana is a BACP Accredited psychotherapist, counsellor & coach who specialises in supporting people through life transitions, including grief and loss. She understands that losing someone can leave those left behind feeling lost and directionless, and that for some, it can push them to face their own mortality before they feel ready. With over 25 years of experience, she offers a holistic approach and creates a safe space for her clients to explore and understand their feelings, supporting them as they work out their next steps and rebuild their resilience. She is based just outside St Albans, but also works with clients online.
Emotional Freedom Technique is very different from anything else and can provide long-lasting emotional benefits. It can validate grief and allow someone to vent, explore and work on their feelings without judgement. EFT helps relieve whatever negativity is occupying space in a person's mind and troubling them. Julie Heanue is an accredited advanced EFT practitioner based in Welwyn Garden City who offers in-person or online sessions. For more information please see her website, Healing Emotions
Julie New is a personal recovery coach who works with people who have suffered trauma to help them find a more positive future. She is based just outside Bedford but also offers online sessions. The symbolic choice of the ‘New Dawn’ rose for the cover of her book, ‘The Grief Garden Path’, speaks for itself.
Solution focused hypnotherapy is underpinned by neuroscience. The combination of talk therapy and deep relaxation offers respite from the pain and mental anxiety that accompanies intense grief. Michelle Hart is based in St Albans but also offers online sessions for those further afield.
